Is the RTA Bus from Dubai to Oman Still Running?
No. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) operated Route 201 in partnership with Oman’s national transport company Mwasalat – a popular service with AED 55 tickets. That service was suspended in February 2023 and has not resumed as of April 2026.
If you have seen the old AED 55 price mentioned anywhere online, that is outdated. The current direct Dubai-Muscat bus is operated exclusively by Al Khanjry Transport at AED 100 one-way.
Still searching for the RTA bus? Al Khanjry runs the same route, three times daily, with online booking now available. Everything you need is below.

Alternative: Mwasalat Bus from Abu Dhabi to Muscat
If you are based in Abu Dhabi, Oman’s national transport company Mwasalat operates a daily direct service from the UAE capital to Muscat. It is slightly more expensive than Al Khanjry and runs only once a day, but you can book online and it is an official government-operated service.
| Al Khanjry (Dubai) | Mwasalat (Abu Dhabi) | |
| Departure | DNATA Building, Deira | Al Wahda Bus Station, Abu Dhabi |
| Arrival Muscat | Athaiba Bus Station | Azaiba Bus Station |

Most Dubai-based travellers will find Al Khanjry the more practical choice. The Mwasalat service is worth considering if you are already in Abu Dhabi or prefer a government-operated carrier with online booking via their official website.
The Border Crossing: What to Expect
The bus crosses at the Hatta / Al Wajajah border. All passengers must exit the bus twice – once on the UAE side and once on the Oman side. Here is exactly what happens:
Step 1 – UAE Exit (Hatta)
- Exit the bus with your passport and belongings
- Pay the AED 35 UAE departure fee – keep the receipt, Oman immigration will ask for it
- Get your UAE exit stamp
- Re-board the bus
Step 2 – Oman Entry (Al Wajajah)
- Exit the bus again with your passport
- Present your passport, the UAE exit fee receipt, and your Oman visa / visa eligibility
- Luggage may be checked by Omani border officials
- Get your Oman entry stamp and re-board
The full border process adds 30-60 minutes on a normal day. On busy Fridays and public holidays it can take up to 2 hours. Budget accordingly.

Do You Need an Oman Visa?
| Traveller Type | Visa Requirement |
| UAE nationals | No visa required – UAE national ID card is sufficient |
| GCC nationals | No visa required – national ID card of GCC country is sufficient |
| UAE residents (most nationalities) | Visa on arrival available – approx. OMR 20 / AED 190 for 1 month |
| Western passports (UK, US, EU, AUS etc.) | Visa on arrival available |
| Other nationalities | Apply for Oman e-visa before travel at evisa.rop.gov.om |
Tip: Apply for your Oman e-visa online before you travel – it is faster at the border and removes any uncertainty. Visit evisa.rop.gov.om. Visa rules can change; always verify before booking.
Travelling from Ras Al Khaimah to Muscat?
There is no direct RAK-to-Muscat bus. The best approach is to get to the Al Khanjry pickup point in Deira first, then take the bus to Muscat from there. Here are your options for getting from RAK to Dubai:

There is also a bus from Dubai Mall to RAK for AED 30 which runs in both directions – useful if you are connecting from central Dubai.
Option 2 – Drive from RAK to Abu Hail, Deira
- Distance: approx. 45-60 km from RAK city centre
- Drive time: 45-60 minutes without traffic, longer during rush hours
- Park near Abu Hail Metro and walk to the Al Khanjry office behind DNATA
Option 3 – Taxi from RAK to Dubai
