UAE Announces Early Spring Break for Students

Ras Al Khaimah Ruler issues Decree to regulate and enhance school transport sector across the Emirate

UAE schools and universities begin spring break on March 9, giving students a two-week holiday before classes resume.

Good news for students, parents, teachers, and basically anyone who enjoys the words “school holiday.” The United Arab Emirates has decided to kick off spring break a little earlier than expected — and let’s just say, the timing couldn’t be sweeter.

In a recent update shared on X, the UAE’s Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research confirmed that the spring break will now begin on Monday, March 9. That means classrooms across the country will officially hit pause for a two-week holiday, with students returning to school on Monday, March 23.

Yes, you read that correctly. Two whole weeks. No alarms, no homework drama, and no early morning school runs.

Why the Change?

The adjustment comes after a week of distance learning across the country, which prompted a slight reshuffle of the academic calendar. The decision was approved by the Education, Human Development and Community Council, alongside the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

In simple terms: the calendar got a tiny makeover, and the result is an earlier holiday for everyone involved.

And honestly, when the school calendar decides to surprise you with extra breathing space, you don’t ask too many questions — you just accept the gift.

Perfect Timing with Eid Al Fitr

Here’s where the timing gets even better.

This two-week spring break conveniently overlaps with the upcoming Eid Al Fitr holiday in the UAE. Eid is expected to begin on Thursday, March 19, bringing a long weekend for residents across the country.

For the public sector, the holiday runs from Thursday, March 19 to Sunday, March 22. Meanwhile, private sector employees will officially have Thursday, March 19 to Saturday, March 21 off. And since Sunday is already the UAE’s regular weekend, many private sector workers will also enjoy a four-day break.

In other words, the UAE calendar has basically lined up the stars: spring break plus Eid celebrations equals a pretty well-timed pause from the usual routine.

What This Means for Families

For families, this change opens up a lot of possibilities. Some might use the time for quick staycations, road trips, or a few beach days before the warmer months kick in. Others may simply enjoy a slower pace — late breakfasts, relaxed evenings, and maybe just a little less screen-time negotiation with the kids.

Students, of course, are likely celebrating the news with the universal reaction: “Wait… holidays start earlier? Nice.”

Teachers and school staff won’t mind the extra breather either.

A Welcome Pause

With the academic year marching steadily forward, this earlier spring break feels like a perfectly timed reset button. Two weeks to recharge, celebrate Eid, spend time with family, and maybe squeeze in a little adventure before school life resumes.

So whether you’re planning a mini getaway, exploring the UAE, or simply enjoying the luxury of a few slow mornings, one thing is clear — spring break just got a head start, and the whole country is ready to enjoy it.
