Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability by successfully concluding its annual beach clean-up initiative at Al Hulaila in Ras Al Khaimah. The initiative underscores RAKEZ’s dedication to reducing marine pollution, protecting biodiversity, and raising community awareness on the importance of maintaining clean and healthy coastal ecosystems for future generations.
A Collective Effort for a Greener Future
The clean-up event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 100 volunteers, including RAKEZ clients, staff members, and local community members, all united by a shared responsibility to preserve the coastal environment’s natural beauty. Together, the participants collected an astounding 760 kilograms of waste, comprising plastic debris, discarded wood, and other hazardous materials that pose significant threats to marine life and the surrounding ecosystem.
Impact of Plastic and Waste on Marine Ecosystems
Plastic pollution has become a global crisis, and Ras Al Khaimah’s coastal areas are no exception. The accumulation of plastic waste, microplastics, and non-biodegradable materials in marine environments disrupts delicate ecosystems, endangers wildlife, and pollutes the food chain. The RAKEZ beach clean-up initiative plays a crucial role in addressing these issues by actively removing harmful waste and preventing long-term damage to marine biodiversity.
RAKEZ CEO’s Vision for Sustainability
RAKEZ Group CEO, Ramy Jallad, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to environmental responsibility, stating, “The event exemplifies our commitment to environmental protection and responsibility towards Ras Al Khaimah’s community. Sustainability is an integral part of our business model, and by working together, we are making a meaningful difference in preserving our natural surroundings.”
