If you’ve ever found yourself on Emirates Road muttering “why is everyone going this way?”, we’ve got some juicy news that’ll make your GPS (and your patience) very happy. Buckle up, because the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is rolling out a mega Dhs750 million transformation of Emirates Road, and it’s not just a few potholes and paint — we’re talking full-blown glow-up.
Starting this September (yes, that soon!), Emirates Road is getting the VIP treatment with a plan that spans 25km — from Al Badee Interchange in Sharjah all the way to Umm Al Quwain. Once done (give it two years, you got this!), it’ll cut your commute from Ras Al Khaimah to Dubai via UAQ and Sharjah by up to 45%. That’s basically turning a Netflix episode’s worth of traffic into a YouTube Shorts clip. Oh, and it’ll help folks driving out of Sharjah too. Equal opportunity traffic relief!
So… What’s Actually Happening on the Road?
Glad you asked! Here’s the fun bit:
- The road’s vehicle capacity is going up by 65% – that’s up to 9,000 vehicles per hour. Finally, more room for everyone.
- Six new bridges (yes, SIX!) will be built to handle a whopping 13,200 vehicles per hour at intersection number seven. That’s one very busy intersection getting a much-needed breather.
- Collector roads (3.4 km in total) will flank both sides of Emirates Road like trusty sidekicks.
- And new traffic lanes spanning a combined 70 km are being added. That’s basically a mini road trip just in lanes.
Why All This Fuss Over a Road?
Because this isn’t just about convenience — it’s a country-level flex. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, says this is a giant leap towards building an ultra-efficient, community-friendly, eco-smarter road network. That means:
- Faster drives
- Fewer horns and headaches
- Better air quality (yay, fewer emissions!)
- And happier humans overall
In his words: “This project reflects the UAE’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions that not only reduce congestion but also raise living standards.” In our words: “Fewer traffic jams = more time for karak, gym, or just being less cranky.”
When Does the Magic Begin?
Construction kicks off in September 2025, and we’re all in for a two-year transformation journey. So yes, a little patience will be needed, but the payoff? Chef’s kiss. If you drive Emirates Road regularly, the future’s looking wide open — literally.
Let’s just say it now: dear Emirates Road, we’re ready for your era of fast lanes, smooth rides, and stress-free drives. Bring it on!
