Pet-friendly vacations in Ras Al Khaimah: Best Adventures for You and Your Four-Legged Best Friend

Ras Al Khaimah unveils its guide to adventures in the Emirate that can be enjoyed with the pups in tow.  With a host of fur friendly activities in the great outdoors, there is plenty to experience when the weather gets cooler from wadi walks, café excursions to desert escapes and overnight stays. As one of the most pet-friendly Emirates in the UAE, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority in association with Flopster, the popular app that connects UAE communities with pet-friendly activities, have teamed up together to showcase more places to welcome man’s best friend.

Desert Escapes

Pet-friendly vacations in Ras Al Khaimah

When it comes to desert adventures, fun for all is promised by a day spent camping in the company of loved ones. Best suited to the cooler months of the year, the activity allows families to spend some quality time with their dogs out in the open air, where they have the chance to stretch their legs. Furry family members are sure to delight in the many open spaces in Ras Al Khaimah, offering a welcome change from the confines of the indoor settings they would be used to. Dog owners can set up camp in recommended safe locations avoiding low areas such as stream valleys and opting for higher areas far enough from water tide levels specially during the winter season. Campers are also advised to follow fire regulations when cooking in the desert and keeping tents away from cooking stations or where wood is burned. Those looking for a shorter desert experience can also enjoy a family picnic with their furry friends, where they can enjoy the expansive views of the dunes.

Active Getaways

The Emirate is renowned for its stretches of beautiful beaches, most of which are open to furry guests. Dogs will delight in a day spent under the beach umbrella with the family or cooling off in the water.  Firm favourites of the local community is the beach at Al Hamra Village and Flamingo Beach, where pooches can explore and play to their hearts’ content. Those looking to grab a bite to eat at the beach, can take on the contemporary Japanese Cuisine of Ruzo, with its pet friendly outdoor seating area at Flamingo Beach. For active pups, Wadi Showka offers a great chance to embrace the desert terrain, as dogs can take in the thrilling sights, sounds and smells of the surroundings, ideal for hiking with their human companions. Those looking for a more challenging experience can head to the trails at Jebel Jais, where owner and dog can embark on a five to seven-kilometer hike, amidst the rocky terrain, taking in the stunning scenery throughout. Hikers with dogs are encouraged to carry a fixed lead, dog harness, snacks, extra water, food and a vaccination booklet, , as well as ensure to clean up behind their pet and leave nothing behind when hitting the trails.

Giving families the chance to soak up the sunshine are The Codfather and Break & Barrel, both of which welcome guests with dogs, in the outdoor area to enjoy their al-fresco seating, where the staff ensure to keep four legged guests cool with enough water. The Sailing Club makes for an ideal day out for pet owning families, as dogs and people alike can relish the salty sea breeze as they tuck into the wares of the pet friendly restaurants in the vicinity.

Bearing in mind the wellbeing of your four-legged friends, extended exposure to the hot sun on the walking path and trails should be avoided, with outdoor activities best enjoyed in the early hours of the mornings around 6am, or alongside the cooler hours later in the day. When out an about with dogs in the Emirate owners are asked to clean up after their furry family members, carry plenty of water to keep their pets well hydrated and ensure they remain on the leash at all times. Families are promised a safe experience as the Emirate is certified as safe by Bureau Veritas and has achieved the Safe Travels Stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).

Note: When staying with a dog, an advance deposit may be requested to cover any potential damages caused by pets during their stay. Guests are also requested to bring their own pet requirements such as towels and snacks, as this is not provided by the hotel
