If your idea of a perfect weekend includes sore legs, starry skies, epic views, and the kind of stories that start with “So there I was, halfway up a mountain…”—then clear your calendar right now. HIGHLANDER, the Middle East’s premier long-distance hiking event, is officially back in Ras Al Khaimah for its 5th anniversary edition, taking over the mighty Jebel Jais from 6–8 February 2026. And yes, it’s bigger, bolder, and more breathtaking than ever.
Organised by HIGHLANDER Adventure, the world’s largest international hiking series, and proudly supported by Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), this isn’t just a hike—it’s a full-blown mountain love story. Think rugged Hajar Mountain landscapes, deep-rooted heritage, and 94 kilometres of the UAE’s most developed hiking trails, all rolled into one unforgettable adventure.
When: 6–8 February 2026
More Than a Hike, It’s a Mountain Experience

This is where adventure tourism meets soul food. As you trek through Ras Al Khaimah’s dramatic mountain terrain, you’ll pass historic mountain settlements that whisper stories of the tribes who once thrived here. It’s like time travel… but with backpacks and hiking boots.
And when the sun dips behind the peaks, the HIGHLANDER camp experience kicks in. Expect live cooking stations serving authentic local cuisine (because calories don’t count on mountains), cultural exchanges with mountain communities, and fascinating wildlife sessions led by renowned photographer Bachar Bouka, who’ll introduce you to the incredible species that call the Hajar Mountains home. Nature, culture, and dinner under the stars—hard to top that.
Phillipa Harrison, CEO of RAKTDA, sums it up perfectly: hosting HIGHLANDER for the fifth year reinforces Ras Al Khaimah’s commitment to wellness, experiential travel, and meaningful connections with nature. Translation? RAK is officially the place to be for outdoor lovers.
Three Challenges. One Legendary Mountain.
Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or testing your mountain legs for the first time, HIGHLANDER Ras Al Khaimah has a challenge with your name on it.
HIGHLANDER Pegasus – 3 Days | 37 km | 6–8 Feb 2026
The flagship experience returns to where it all began—the north face of Jebel Jais. Named after the winged horse of Greek mythology, this is the ultimate test of endurance. Participants take on one of the UAE’s most iconic trails: Wadi Latibah (aka Stairway to Heaven) or Wadi Ghalilah. Tough? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.
HIGHLANDER Orion – 2 Days | 25 km | 7–8 Feb 2026
This one’s for the true backpacking fans. Carry all your essentials—camping, cooking, hiking gear—and embrace the raw, unplugged mountain life. You’ll camp under the stars, wake up to epic views, and feel wildly accomplished by the end.
HIGHLANDER Lyra – 1 Day | 13 km | 8 Feb 2026
New to long-distance hiking? Lyra is your perfect intro. A more accessible yet rewarding trail, minimal gear, no camping stress, and a shared finish-line celebration with other HIGHLANDERS. Named after one of the brightest constellations, this route is all about balance, confidence, and good vibes.
Hiking With a Conscience

HIGHLANDER isn’t just about conquering trails—it’s about protecting them too. Fully aligned with Ras Al Khaimah’s sustainable tourism vision, the event promotes “Leave No Trace” principles throughout the journey. Expect on-ground activations, clear guidance, and a strong emphasis on respecting both nature and cultural heritage. Adventure feels even better when you know you’re doing it responsibly.
