RAK Airport Sets Sights on China and the Far East

Ras Al Khaimah airport is chasing new airlines from China and the Far East, timed to the Wynn Al Marjan opening and the emirate’s high-value tourism push.

Last updated: July 2026

Ras Al Khaimah International Airport has its eyes on the East. As the emirate gears up for a wave of high-value tourism, the airport is actively courting new airlines from China and the wider Far East, a move that could reshape who flies into RAK and why. Here is the plan and what is driving it.

What’s changed

CEO Manish Seth has laid out a 2026 growth strategy focused on strengthening existing markets while opening up new ones. The airport is working hand in hand with airline partners to expand flight frequencies, optimise capacity and build steady, sustainable growth – and Asia, China in particular, sits right at the centre of that thinking, alongside new European links.

Why China, and why now

The timing is not a coincidence. Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism offering is shifting sharply upmarket, led by Wynn Al Marjan Island, the multi-billion-dollar integrated resort opening in early 2027. Developments like that are expected to draw new, high-value visitor segments, and China is one of the world’s biggest sources of outbound luxury travellers. Direct connectivity is how you turn that interest into arrivals, which is exactly the gap the airport wants to close.

It also builds on real momentum. RKT has already crossed one million passengers in a single year, giving it the credibility to attract bigger carriers.

What happens next

New long-haul routes take time to negotiate and launch, so do not expect a Beijing or Shanghai service overnight. But the direction is set. With the new VVIP private terminal and the Wynn opening both due around 2027, and the main 30,000 sqm terminal expansion following by 2028, the pieces are lining up. We will update this as routes are confirmed – in the meantime, see which airlines and routes currently fly from RAK, or start with our complete guide to RAK airport.
