The beginner hike everyone starts with. Wadi Shawka sits on the RAK side of the Hajar foothills, an easy-to-moderate trail that rewards you with seasonal rock pools at the top when the wadi has held water. Free, no booking, accessed off the E18. Go very early, both for the light and to beat the heat, and only count on the pools from November to February. Daylight access only.
