Climb 239 steps to the only surviving hilltop fort in the UAE, restored after the British siege of 1819, and the reward is a 360-degree view over palm groves, the Hajar Mountains and the sea. It is small, free and best at sunset when the light turns the mudbrick gold. Sun to Thu 09:00 to 17:00, with weekend access, about 20 minutes north of the city.
