We finally know what you will actually do at Wynn Al Marjan Island once the gaming floor and the restaurants have had their moment. The resort has revealed its first entertainment attraction, and it is a proper statement of intent. Wynn has partnered with Punchdrunk, the British company behind the cult hit Sleep No More, to build an original production that will live inside the resort when it opens in 2027. It is Punchdrunk’s first ever show in the Middle East and North Africa, and it is being made for RAK alone.
So who exactly is Punchdrunk?
If you have never heard the name, you have almost certainly heard of the show. Punchdrunk was founded in 2000 by Felix Barrett MBE and it more or less invented modern immersive theatre, the kind where the audience walks through the set instead of sitting in front of it. Its flagship production, Sleep No More, ran in New York for 14 years and clocked more than 5,000 performances. Versions have since played Shanghai and Seoul, with a Shenzhen run lined up next. Now the next chapter is being written on Al Marjan Island.
Two completely different shows, one building
Here is the clever part. The production borrows the spirit of a classic Las Vegas revue, all song and dance and spectacle, but it splits into two experiences under the same roof. Take a seat upstairs and you get the full staged show the traditional way. Or head downstairs and you can roam freely through the backstage world and hidden spaces while the story unfolds around you. Same night, same cast, two entirely different ways to watch it. The whole thing is conceived and directed by Barrett alongside Craig S. Billings, the CEO of Wynn Resorts.

The theatre is part of the performance
Wynn has designed the venue as a modern take on a grand old theatre, leaning into Art Deco lines, rich fabrics and sculpted drapery. The trick is that the show does not stop at the edge of the stage. The lobby, the aisles, the elevators, even the restrooms are all built to be part of the production environment, so you are inside the story from the moment you walk in. For a property that already promises a deep roster of restaurants and a full range of rooms and suites, it is one more reason to make a night of it.
When can you actually see it?
The show opens when the resort opens, which is currently targeted for 2027. Wynn has flagged that the timeline could shift slightly, so treat the year as the headline rather than a fixed date. Either way, this is the first piece of the entertainment puzzle to be confirmed, following the resort topping out late last year and its earlier Netflix Chef’s Table tie-up.

Big resorts in the region tend to lead with beaches, buffets and beach clubs. Booking a name like Punchdrunk signals that Wynn Al Marjan Island wants to be a genuine night-out destination, not just a place to stay. For RAK that is a meaningful shift. It puts the emirate on the map for the kind of cultural draw people usually fly to London or New York for, and it gives residents one more reason to keep the weekend local.
